Emissions Test on Resale (HB2134, 77th Legislative Session) - Effective September 1, 2005:

In Williamson County when processing a vehicle title transfer (ownership change) a current Texas Vehicle Inspection Report (VIR) will be required along with the additional title transfer documents.

 

 The VIR will be required on:

  • gas powered vehicles 2 to 24 years old
  • vehicles previously registered or titled in a county that is not subject to the emissions inspection and maintenance program.

 

 

Exempt from the VIR are:

·         vehicles last titled in counties with emissions inspection and maintenance programs

·         out of state transfers

·         title only transfers

·         vehicles less than 2 years old

·         vehicles older than 24 years

·         diesel powered vehicles and

·         antique vehicles.

Counties with emissions inspection and maintenance programs:  Brazoria, Collin, Dallas, Denton, Ellis, El Paso, Fort Bend, Galveston, Harris, Johnson, Kaufman, Montgomery, Parker, Rockwall, Tarrant, Travis and Williamson.
