Certified Officer
The Williamson County Sheriff’s Office currently fills all available positions with those Applicants who are pre-certified through an approved Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education licensed Basic Police Academy. This benefits the County and Citizens of Williamson County by immediately increasing man power when needed. If an Applicant is self enrolled in an approved Police Academy at the time of submitting their application or plans to challenge the TCLEOSE Basic Peace Officer Examination before a conditional offer of employment is tendered, the applicant may apply as “Certified.”

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

 

DISQUALIFIERS:

Any of the following will disqualify an applicant from further consideration at any stage of the process.

Applications received from persons who one or more of the following descriptors applies will not be considered.

a.         Having a conviction for, being under indictment for, or currently charged with any felony offense.  

b.         Having a conviction for or currently charged with any misdemeanor offense involving moral turpitude.  

c.         Having been convicted of an offense above the grade of a Class B misdemeanor or a Class B misdemeanor within the last ten (10)     years. 

d.         Having a conviction for driving under the influence (DWI or DUI) within ten (10) years preceding the date of application.  If during the hiring process an applicant is charged with DWI or DUI, the applicant will be eliminated from the process and no future application be considered until final disposition of the charge with an acquittal or ten years from the date of conviction. 

e.         Having been or currently on court-ordered community supervision or probation for any criminal offense above the grade of Class B  misdemeanor or a Class B misdemeanor within the last 10 years. 

f.          Having a conviction for Family Violence. 

For the purposes of items a. thru f. mentioned in this section, a person is convicted of a felony or misdemeanor crime involving moral turpitude, if a court of competent jurisdiction enters an adjudication of guilt against the person, or a plea of guilty is entered by the person, under the laws of this or another state or the United States, regardless of whether:

·      The sentence is subsequently probated and the person is discharged from probation or community supervision;

·      Deferred adjudication is granted;

·      The accusation, complaint, information, or indictment against the person is dismissed and the person is released from all penalties and disabilities resulting from the offense; or

·      The person is pardoned for the offense, unless the pardon is granted expressly for subsequent proof of innocence.

Court-Ordered Community Supervision is any court-ordered community supervision or probation resulting from a deferred adjudication or conviction by a court of competent jurisdiction. This includes supervision resulting from a pretrial diversion.

g.          Applications received for Law Enforcement positions when the applicant does not or can not hold a clear and valid Texas Peace Officers License and current/valid Texas Drivers License.

h.          Applications received for Law Enforcement positions when the applicant has not successfully completed a peace officers academy and passed the T.C.L.E.O.S.E. licensing exam and received a letter of eligibility from T.C.L.E.O.S.E. and current/valid Texas Drivers License.

3.         Disqualifiers 

Subject to final interpretation by the Sheriff or his/her designee, any of the following categories can be used as guidelines for temporary or permanent disqualification of an applicant:

a.         Within five (5) years preceding the date of application or during the hiring process, having illegally used any controlled substance or dangerous drug including marijuana (Up to a permanent disqualification dependant on an Executive Staff Review). 

b.         Having illegally furnished or sold any controlled substance or dangerous drug including marijuana to another.  (Permanently disqualified) 

c.         Having an excessive record of traffic convictions or negligent traffic collisions.  This is defined as:

·      During the three (3) year period preceding date of application or during the hiring process, convictions for moving violations equating to 6 or more points as defined by the Williamson County Vehicle Use Policy in accordance with the Texas Association of Counties insurability standard.

·      During the five (5) year period preceding date of application or during the hiring process, a drivers license suspension for driving while intoxicated, failure to carry liability insurance, or for any reason that would indicate a pattern of poor driving behavior.

·      A negligent collision during the five (5) year period preceding date of application or during the hiring process, that would indicate poor driver behavior or habits, whether or not citations were issued. 

d.         Not being of good moral character; or being known to habitually associate with those of questionable moral character. (Permanently disqualified) 

e.         During the five (5) year period preceding date of application or during the hiring process having a history of delinquent payments.

f.          During the five (5) year period preceding date of application or during the hiring process of not meeting financial obligations.

g.         During the five (5) year period preceding date of application or during the hiring process repeated occurrences of issuing checks without sufficient funds, without extenuating circumstances. This excludes checks covered by overdraft protection. This disqualification is for one year after establishing and maintaining a history of no delinquent payments. 

                         h.        Being a member of any organization, which advocates the overthrow of the government by force or violence.  (Permanently disqualified) 

i.          Being discharged from any military service under less than honorable conditions. (permanently disqualified)

j.          Having had a law enforcement commission license revoked or denied by final order, or having voluntarily surrendered your license to avoid suspension.  (Permanently disqualified) 

k.         Having been discharged from any commissioned or recruit position within a law enforcement agency for disciplinary reasons, resigning to avoid suspension or discharge or having resigned during a disciplinary investigation without a final judgment being rendered.  (Permanently disqualified) 

l.          Having been discharged from any city, county, state, federal or private corrections institute for disciplinary reasons, resigning to avoid suspension or discharge or having resigned during a disciplinary investigation without a final judgment being rendered.  (Permanently disqualified) 

m.        Failing to cooperate fully with and keep all scheduled appointments, failing to supply the needed documents within the specified time limits, failing to provide added personal information as needed, or failing to update changes within ten (10) days of the change will disqualify an applicant from the hiring process for a minimum of one (1) year. 

n.         Refusal to submit to a polygraph examination will result in being permanently disqualified. 

o.         Making false statements, falsely swearing to statements or in any other manner falsifying testimony in any official matter or in any significant business transaction.  (Permanently disqualified) 

p.         Making any false statement of fact, being deceptive by statement or omission in the Pre-screening Application and/or the Background History Statement or by any means in any part of the selection process. Disqualification is for a minimum of two (2) years from the date of disqualification.

q.         Having had disciplinary action taken against a licensee by T.C.L.E.O.S.E. or other Law Enforcement licensing authority for violations related to arrests and/or convictions. (Permanently disqualified) 

r.          Without being enumerated in the above disqualifiers, if circumstances exist which indicate the applicant is clearly unsuited for a career with the Williamson County Sheriff’s office; the applicant will be rejected. (Permanently disqualified)
