Personal History Statement

Thank you for your interest in the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office. Information concerning our application and hiring process follow. Please feel free to print this information. Please read the information carefully before completing the application. You must meet the minimum qualifications and not fall under any of the listed disqualifiers.

After return of the application, applicants are required to notify the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office regarding any changes in personal information (address, phone, applications with other departments, etc.) within five working days of the change. Failing to do so could result in your disqualification from the application process.

Any questions concerning the testing or hiring process should be directed to the Training and Recruiting Unit (512) 943-1320. The Sheriff’s Office will not be responsible for incorrect information obtained through other members of the Sheriff’s Office. 

Any travel or other expenses associated with the application, testing, or hiring process will be borne by the applicant.

STEPS IN THE APPLICATION PROCESS:

The following is an outline of the steps in the hiring process. Each stage must be successfully completed to progress to the next phase.

I. PRELIMINARY APPLICATION

To be considered for employment with the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office, a candidate must complete the Preliminary Application. The preliminary application must contain truthful and complete responses. “N/A” must be written or typed in each blank that does not apply. You may download a preliminary application from the Williamson County Human Resources page located here (Williamson County Application), follow the steps for completion and how to return the preliminary application.

Upon receipt, the application will be reviewed to determine whether the candidate meets the minimum qualifications. All applicants will be notified in writing if they do not meet the minimum qualifications.

I. NOTICE OF TESTING

Approximately two weeks prior to the basic entrance examination, a “Notice of testing to take the “Basic Entrance Examination” is mailed to each applicant who meets the minimum qualifications. Applicants are notified of the date for the next entrance examination. ALL release forms MUST be completed, notarized and returned on the date of testing. All release forms are located in the link labeled “Release Forms” above. Failure to return ALL release forms on the date of testing will result in immediate disqualification.

You MUST return the following release forms completed and notarized on the date of testing:

1.                  FOUR copies of the “Applicants Release of Personal Information”

2.                  One copy of the “ Firearms Qualification test Claims Release”

3.                  One copy of the “Physical Abilities Test Claims Release”

4.                  One Copy of the “TCLEOSE Release”

Again, the above listed release forms MUST be completed and notarized on the date of testing.

II. BASIC ENTRANCE EXAMINATION

The “Basic Entrance Examination” consists of three separate parts of testing: Written Exam, Physical Abilities Exam and Firearms Qualifications Exam”. Applicants must pass each section to move on to the next phase.

            A.  PHYSICAL ABILITY TESTING

Each applicant will be required to successfully complete the “Physical Ability Test” within the required perimeters. See link labeled “physical ability requirements” for specifics.

            B. FIREARMS QUALIFICATIONS EXAM

Firearms testing will be conducted at the range facility and directed by the range master.

The course of fire will accurately represent the current annual qualifications course in use for Sheriff’s Office personnel.

Applicants who score below 80% will be disqualified from the process.

Applicants may be disqualified from the process for violations of range safety procedures at the discretion of the range master or his designee.

            C. WRITTEN EXAM

The written exam is a timed test consisting of three separate parts of testing: Math, English/English comprehension and writing skills and law. Applicants must pass the written exam with a 70 or above. 

III. PERSONAL HISTORY STATEMENT

Applicants will be given the “Personal History Statement” after successfully completing the Basic Entrance Examination. The “Personal History Statement” must be completed and returned to the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office by the due date advised by the training personnel on the day of testing. Failure to return the “Personal history Statement” by the date advised will result in immediate disqualification from the hiring process. You may also download and print the Personal History Statement (see above link labeled “Personal History Statement”) complete and notarize and return it on the date of testing. This is strongly urged to expedite the process.

 

IV. BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION

A thorough background investigation is conducted to establish evidence of good moral character, a well-adjusted personality and a pattern of conduct acceptable to the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office.

V. ORAL INTERVIEW

Applicants who successfully complete the background investigation will appear before a panel of Sheriff’s Office Staff for an interview.

VI. PSYCHOLOGICAL EXAMINATION

Applicants given a written conditional offer of employment with the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office are required, at the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office expense, to be evaluated by a Psychologist of the Sheriff’s Office choosing. The interview is designed to assess the Applicant’s mental and emotional fitness to function successfully as a Deputy Sheriff.

VII. MEDICAL ASSESSMENT

Applicants given a written conditional offer of employment and who successfully complete the “Psychological Examination” is required, at the Sheriff’s Office expense, to be evaluated by a Physician of the Sheriff’s Office choosing. The Physician will assess each Applicant’s physical condition to ensure he/she can perform the essential physical job functions required to be a Williamson County Deputy Sheriff.

VIII. DRUG SCREENING

Applicants successfully passing both the Psychological and Medical examination are required to submit to a drug test at the facility designated by the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office. The Williamson County Sheriff’s Office is responsible for this expense. The drug screening is the last phase of the process.
