SH 29 Safety/Mobility Task Force Announced

On September 30, 2008, commissioners Cynthia Long, Precinct 2, and Valerie Covey, Precinct 3, announced the formation of a community-based Safety/Mobility Task Force to proactively address safety and mobility issues on SH 29.  More.  

 

Child Safety Day

Williamson County Emergency Services are co-sponsoring in a Child Safety Day event at Mel's Lone Star Lanes, 1010 N. Austin Avenue, in Georgetown, this Saturday, October 4, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. There will be static displays of emergency vehicles for the kids as well as games like "911 Tic-Tac-Toe," "Fishing for an Emergency" and "Reverse Jeopardy" to reinforce the 911 emergency number and teach child safety lessons. Animal Shot Clinic at Regional Animal Shelter

The Williamson County Regional Animal Shelter will hold a shot clinic on Saturday, October 11, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., to celebrate World Rabies Day.  The shelter is located at 1855 S.E. Inner Loop.  The low cost vaccinations, micropchipping and county registration for pets are all provided by Roadrunner Mobile Vet. 

 

Paws in the Park

The Austin Dog Alliance is holding Paws in the Park, a day of activities, food and fun, from 1-4 on Sunday, October 5, at the Cedar Park Regional Medical Center Campus. There is no entrance fee and no registration required. Activities include dog Olympics, dog training, a children’s area, demonstrations and an area where breed rescue groups can showcase their dogs available for adoption. In addition to dog groomers, a pet photographer and a canine massage therapist, there will be music, vendor booths, t-shirts and a free goody bag for the first 500 attendees. October 6 is last day to register to vote

The November 4 General Election is right around the corner with several important dates to remember. October 6 is the last day to register to vote. Forms must be received in the Elections Office, 301 S.E. Inner Loop, Suite 104, Georgetown, Texas 78626, by 5 p.m. on October 6 or postmarked no later then October 6, 2008. Early voting will be October 20 to 31. Qualified voters can vote anywhere in the county during early voting, but only at their polling place in their voting precinct on election day. October 28 is the date all requests for a Ballot by Mail must be received. For more information, visit the Elections website.

 

National Night Out Oct. 7

This year, the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office will celebrate the 25th Annual “National Night Out” with residents in unincorporated areas of the county on Tuesday, October 7. If you register your party, you may receive a visit from a Williamson County Sheriff’s Office representative, but a visit cannot be guaranteed if a large amount of registrants are received. Pets America Volunteer Briefing

Volunteers are needed to assist with pets in shelters, such as those that housed evacuees' animals during Hurricane Ike. If you are interested in helping with pets in any Red Cross shelter, come to the mandatory training meeting on October 8 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Williamson County Regional Animal Shelter, located at 1855 S.E. Archeology Day at Berry Springs Park & Preserve

The Williamson Museum sponsors Archeology Day at Berry Springs Park and Preserve, 1801 C.R. 152 in Georgetown, on Saturday, October 11, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Test your skills at atlatl throwing, have fun finding Clues in the Dirt, learn about flint knapping and much more.  The event is free to the public with a free lunch at 12 p.m.  For more information, call 943-1670 or go to www.williamsonmuseum.org

 

Museum sponsors history presentation

The Williamson Museum is sponsoring a presentation titled "Central Texas Pre-History and the Peopling of the Americas" in the District Courtroom of the historic Williamson County Courthouse, 710 S. Main Street, Georgetown, Thursday, October 9.  Refreshments will be served after the presentation which begins at 7 p.m.  The event is free to the public.

 

County Tax Offices closed for Columbus Day

Williamson County Tax Offices will be closed Monday, October 13, for off-site training. Anyone simply needing a vehicle registration renewal may do so in most Williamson County HEB stores, except in Taylor. Business will re-open at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, October 14, 2008.

 

Open House for Pct. 4 Commissioner's Office

Commissioner Ron Morrison will hold an Open House at their new office at 350 Exchange Boulevard, Ste. 100, in Hutto on Thursday, October 30, from 4 to 6 p.m.  The event is free and open to the public.  Commissioner Morrison and his staff members Pete Correa and Nancy Heath will be available to visit and answer questions.  For more information, call 512-846-1190.

 

Conservation Plan signing ceremony

Williamson County is celebrating the signing of the Williamson County Regional Habitat Conservation Plan (RHCP) on Wednesday, October 29, 2008, at 9:30 a.m. at Beck Preserve at R.M. 620 and Great Oaks Drive. The RHCP was designed by the Williamson County Conservation Foundation (WCCF) to allow governmental entities, landowners and developers to more easily navigate the compliance requirements of the Endangered Species Act. Adoption fees reduced for dogs and cats

This October, the Williamson County Regional Animal Shelter (WCRAS) is celebrating American Humane’s Adopt-a-Dog Month. In addition, the shelter will be extending the cat and kitten specials from the summer months through the end of October where all cats more than five year sold are available for $25. More.

 

Heroes in the Fight Award

Williamson County's Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) and Mobile Outreach Team (MOT) won the “Heroes in the Fight” award in the treatment team category for their commitment to the fight against severe mental illness.  More.

Wilco Pen Pals Update

Commissioner Covey's office launched Wilco Pen Pals and has successfully matched 127 deployed soldiers with Williamson County employees as pen pals.  All the soldiers are part of the Brigade Headquarters Company of the 4th Combat Aviation Brigade.  Many employees already have heard from their pen pals in Iraq.  "We really appreciate all the letters, packages and support.  It's the best thing there is here - to get mail!" said Captain Kelsy Williams.
